Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship a few changes made on the selection process| @DrRPNishank

Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship scheme launched under the guidance of Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi by Dr. R.P Nishank last year. The schemes one of the major goals is to improve the research quality in various Higher Educational Institutions throughout the country.

Recently Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank made an announcement in his tweeter handle; and replying to his own tweet he mentioned the followings- “To increase the uptake of the fellowship, several changes have been made in the selection process of Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship so that more number of students can avail the benefit under the Scheme”

The following amendments are made to increase the number of students who can have the benefits-

  • The required GATE score has been reduced to 650 from 750; apart from minimum CGPA of 8 or equivalent, for the students from any recognized institute/university (other than IISc/ IITs/NITs/ IISERs / IIEST/CF IIITs),
  • There will be two channels of entries:
    • Direct
    • Lateral

Students pursuing a Ph.D. in PMRF scheme granting institutions (completed 12 or 24 months as per specific requirements) can also apply.

NITs that hold a ranking among the top 25 institutions as per NIRF rankings, can also become PMRF granting institution. Moreover, here are the other PMRF Granting Institutes- IISC Bengaluru, ALL IISERs, ALL IITs, Jawaharlal Nehru University, BANARAS HINDU University, University of Hyderabad, Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Millia University, University of Delhi, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.
