Assam is getting ready to get its version of the World Trade Centre called the “Twin Tower Trade Center”. A 65-story Commercial Twin Tower is soon coming to the State’s commercial city Guwahati. This project is the starting of a new trade and business gateway for South East countries. It is expected to boost economic inter-linkages by facilitating Global trade and investment. The Government of Assam signed a MoU with NBCC for the construction of this Twin Tower in the Global Investor’s Summit held in Guwahati on 3rd and 4th February 2018 under the Advantage Assam. The cost of this project is INR 1950 crore in self-financing mode. This marvellous project will get constructed in Basistha near NH-37. The construction will start in July 2018 and is expected to complete within sixty months. The technology used will be modern and environment-friendly and will represent the rich culture of Assam.
About the Twin Tower
The twin Tower built on an area of 10.6-acre land which has been provided by the State government. The design is inspired by the one-horned rhinoceros and the Dhol, both of which are the symbols of Assam.
The two interconnected buildings will have a convention centre, hotel, shopping complex, serviced apartments, residential zones, museum, cinema halls, basement parking with a capacity of 4,000 cars, multi-layered security system, etc.
What the officials have to say?
Mr Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said, “This building is not just an impressive structure, but it embodies the spirit of progress, the aspirations of the youth and world-class design.” The Union Minister also said, “Today we are two and a half trillion dollar economy, and fifty percent of it is the external sector. This economy is going to be six trillion dollars by the year 2025, and we should, therefore, be thinking along the lines of Prime Minister’s vision of Swacchata, Housing for all and Smart Cities to reap the maximum dividend. This building is going to be not only a symbol of the greatness of Assam but also a visible manifestation of PM’s Act East Policy.”
Why is this necessary?
Mr Puri also emphasises the necessity of improvised connectivity for Assam and the other North Eastern states for becoming a relation centre with South East countries. He wishes for the prosperity of the region. The man also stressed on how to do business efficiently to draw clients for procuring space in the towers. And he said that with everything new around, it is always necessary to keep all the business entities in one place.
He also said that NBCC would maintain the project guidelines and assured to extend all support from the Government of India.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal talked about creating an ecosystem through which the state would prosper. The trade centre, he said, would give a new boost to business in Assam.
He also thanked NBCC for taking up the responsibilities to build the towers and hoped for support from all quarters.
